How to stop your gutter from squeaking or leaking
30 June 2025

Fixing squeaky or leaking gutters can help maintain your home's exterior and prevent water damage. Here are a few ways to manage both problems:
Stopping Gutter Squeaks
- Check for Loose Connections: Tighten any loose screws or brackets that might be causing the squeaking
- Lubricate Joints: Apply a silicone-based lubricant to the joints and moving parts of the gutter system
- Use Nylon Rope: Run a nylon rope down the length of the downpipe. The rope will guide the water down quietly
Fixing Leaky Gutters
- Clean the Gutters: Remove debris and clean the gutters thoroughly to ensure water flows freely
- Seal Cracks: Use a gutter sealant to fill any small cracks or holes. For larger holes, you may need to replace the fitting
- Replace broken fittings: Gutter and pipe fittings get damaged overtime. Replace them if they aren't watertight
- Replace Worn Seals: If the rubber seals in the joints are worn out, replace them to prevent leaks
- Ensure Proper Slope: Make sure the gutters are properly sloped towards the downpipe to prevent water from pooling
By following these steps, you can keep your gutters in good condition and avoid the issues of squeaking and leaking.
